About the Hampton Roads IMT

The Hampton Roads Incident Management Team (HRIMT) is a deployable group of members from multiple disciplines and agencies across the Hampton Roads region. These members are highly-trained and experienced in the Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS). The HRIMT can be activated to support the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) with major/complex emergencies, planned events, or disasters that might require a significant number of local and/or mutual-aid resources.

Large-scale/complex incidents, disasters, and preplanned events can overwhelm the incident management capabilities of an AHJ. The deployment of a Type III Incident Management Team (IMT) can supplement and/or strengthen the command/control, coordination, and logistics response. Some examples of the types of incidents/events an IMT can assist in are:

  • Natural Disasters
  • Public Health Emergencies
  • Environment Emergencies
  • Resource distribution
  • Public events

The team is capable of assisting or managing major incidents/events that can require significant local, regional, state, or federal resources.; including incidents that extend into multiple operational periods requiring a written Incident Action Plan (IAP).

The HRIMT is normally deployed as a team of 10 to 20 trained members. Dependent on the situation, the HRIMT can deploy single-resource assistance or logistical support such as: a command post, shelters, or IT equipment.
